Beyoncé might be taking legal action against the Trump campaign after former President Donald Trump used her song “Freedom” in a social media video without permission, Rolling Stone reports.

According to the outlet, the singer has threatened to send a cease-and-desist letter, demanding that the campaign remove the video, which features the Lemonade track.

A source close to Beyoncé told Rolling Stone that the Trump campaign did not seek or receive permission to use “Freedom” in the 13-second video, which shows Trump getting off a plane in Michigan. The video, posted by Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung on Tuesday, remained on Cheung’s X account as of Wednesday, even after Beyoncé’s label issued the cease-and-desist threat.

“Freedom” has been prominently featured in Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, with Beyoncé’s full permission. Earlier this week, the Harris/Walz campaign debuted a new ad soundtracked by the song, with actor Jeffrey Wright narrating a message about America’s future and resilience. The track has become an unofficial anthem for Harris, used at key moments throughout her campaign.

Trump, however, has a history of using music at his rallies without the artists’ consent, leading to legal threats and backlash from numerous musicians. This latest incident with Beyoncé’s “Freedom” adds to the growing list of artists who have opposed the former president’s unauthorized use of their work.
