AG Radio Welcome to the best night of your life
Something big has occurred in Geary, Oklahoma, resulting in the resignation of the entire police department, including the police chief.
According to recent reports, the town’s entire four-person police department, led by Police Chief Alicia Ford, have stepped away from their jobs, alongside two city councilmembers. Ford posted the announcement on social media, sharing that the decision was difficult but necessary for her and her team. Despite being saddened by no longer serving the community, Ford urged residents to become more involved with the city council.
“It is with great sadness that I and the rest of the Geary police officers will no longer be serving this community,” Ford wrote, “but it was the right decision for me and the other officers,” Ford wrote.
Additionally, City Council members Glen “Rocky” Coleman Jr. and Kristy Miller also announced their resignations, leaving the council with only one member. Coleman stated that the decision was due to a mismatch between the city’s direction and his values and the lack of communication between the administration and council members.
“Council members are just about the last to know something,” Coleman wrote. “There are often times that I would not know something (is planned) until the meeting started.”
While the community currently lacks a police department, the city has shared that the Blaine and Canadian County sheriff’s offices would temporarily assist with patrols. Nonetheless, an interim chief has already been appointed and more officers will be brought in soon.
“We would like to let our citizens know we are conducting business as usual,” the city said in a statement. “If you have an emergency, please contact 911 like you normally would and an officer will be dispatched to assist you.”
