AG Radio Welcome to the best night of your life
Ever wonder what happens to the children of professional athletes during the Olympic Games? Thanks to seven-time Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix, there’s now a solution. Felix, a mother of two, has partnered with Pampers to create the first-ever nursery at Olympic Village, designed to ease the worries of athletic parents.
The nursery is conveniently located at the center of the athletes’ accommodations for easy access. Felix launched this initiative to support athletic moms and provide a sense of home while they’re away from their families.
“It was top of mind to support athletes who are mothers,” Felix explained. “It’s a space where families can get away from it all and have some of the comforts of home. They can have playtime and places to feed their babies. It’s meant to feel like home.”
The nursery offers Pampers diapers and wipes, as well as multiple play areas for children. “It’s childcare,” Felix added. “It’s here so that mothers and families feel supported. Having some normalcy is great, just to have an actual space dedicated for this.”
Felix, 38, has long been an advocate for athlete moms, sharing her own experiences of balancing motherhood with her career. Now a member of the Athletes’ Commission with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Felix uses her platform to voice the concerns of athlete moms and advocate for better support systems.
“I knew how difficult it was to compete at the top level after having my daughter, and some practical things were really hard,” she stated. “When I joined the IOC Athletes’ Commission, I wanted to be a voice for athlete moms and remove one more worry during the pressures of competition.”
With this new nursery, Felix continues to pave the way for athlete parents, ensuring they have the support they need to excel both on and off the field.
