Baraboo Superintendent Rainey Briggs is not ready to forgive Matt Eddy, who disrupted a high school graduation by shoving Briggs to stop him from shaking his daughter’s hand. The incident on May 31 led to Eddy’s arrest for disorderly conduct and a restraining order against him.

Despite Eddy’s lawyer expressing remorse on Monday, Briggs remains unmoved. “An apology just doesn’t make things go away,” he told DailyMail.com. Briggs emphasized the lasting impact on the graduating class, saying, “This was a moment they’ll never get back.”

The reasons behind Eddy’s actions are unclear, though he blamed school officials for his daughter’s expulsion. Some speculate race was a factor, as Briggs, the only Black administrator on stage, was targeted. “Ultimately, Mr. Eddy is the only one who could tell you whether it was racial or not,” Briggs noted.

Briggs has faced threats since becoming superintendent in 2021 in a predominantly white district. Despite the challenges, he remains committed to his role and the well-being of his students.
