AG Radio Welcome to the best night of your life
A tragic incident unfolded at Joppatowne High School in Joppa, Maryland, when a 16-year-old student reportedly shot and killed a 15-year-old boy during what authorities described as an altercation in the school’s boys’ bathroom. The victim, identified as Warren Curtis Grant, was discovered by fellow students who rushed to get help. The school’s principal and nurses provided immediate care, and Grant was then airlifted to a trauma center. Unfortunately, he did not survive and was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arriving.
According to Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler, the suspect fled the school to nearby apartments after the shooting but was quickly located and taken into custody with the assistance of nearby community members. He will be charged as an adult.
Authorities have not yet recovered the firearm used in the incident and believe only a single shot was fired. The motive behind the altercation remains unknown at this time.
The 16-year-old suspect was reportedly attending his first day at Joppatowne High School when the incident occurred. Sheriff Gahler noted that the suspect is known to law enforcement, and there have been more than ten incidents involving him since 2022, either as a victim, witness, or suspect.
Harford County Public Schools Superintendent Sean Bulson expressed his deep concern over the tragic event, stating, “We’re devastated to be among the schools that have experienced this kind of tragedy. We are committed to working closely with our community to ensure this never happens again.”
